Anuj Singh (Admin) 31 March 2026 2023 views

The Dark Net — Truth vs Fiction

The dark net is estimated to be 400-550 times larger than the surface web. Here's how it actually works.

Internet Layers

  • Surface Web (4%): Google-indexed websites
  • Deep Web (90%): Databases, intranets, paywalled content
  • Dark Web (6%): Requires special software (Tor) to access

How Tor Works

  1. Your traffic enters the Tor network at an Entry Node
  2. It's encrypted and passed through a Middle Relay
  3. It exits through an Exit Node from a different country
  4. Each node only knows the previous and next node — not the full path

Accessing .onion Sites

# Install Tor Browser
sudo apt install torbrowser-launcher -y
torbrowser-launcher

What Exists on the Dark Web

  • 🟢 Legal: ProtonMail, Facebook, BBC News, whistleblowing platforms
  • 🟡 Grey: Forums, cryptocurrency exchanges, privacy tools
  • 🔴 Illegal: Markets, stolen data, malware shops (DO NOT ACCESS)

Dark Web Statistics

  • 💰 Stolen credit card: $5-$45 each
  • 💰 Full identity package: $1-$100
  • 💰 DDoS attack service: $10-$500/hour
  • 💰 Ransomware kit: $50-$5,000

Important Warning

Accessing illegal dark web markets is a criminal offense. Law enforcement regularly conducts operations that have taken down AlphaBay, Silk Road, Hydra Market.
